Found an Injured or Orphaned Bird?

  1. Assess the Situation

    1. Fledglings: If the bird can hop, perch, or run, and its wing feathers or short tail is slightly down, this is normal, the Fledgling could be learning to fly. Keep domestic pets indoors, and allow its parents to continue care.

    2. Nestlings: If the bird presents helpless, has downy feathers, or is immobile, it may have fallen from its nest prematurely. Place the bird in a makeshift nest, crumple paper towels in the form of a nest and add holes for air. Set the nest somewhere warm and free from loud noises. Contact a rehabilitator immediately.

  2. Safety Guidelines

    1. For Small Birds (Smaller than a crow): Follow the instructions above for creating a makeshift nest, using a well-ventilated enclosure lined with crumpled paper towels.

    2. For Large Birds (Hawks, Owls, Crows, Ravens): Proceed with caution. Birds can bite or cause injury from their talons. Please contact a rehabilitator before attempting to contain.

    3. Never feed or give water: This could cause injury or aspiration.

Grow a Native Sanctuary

Our local birds depend on native plants for food, shelter, and nesting.

By using plants native to the South Mountain area, we restore the natural ecosystems that support a thriving bird habitat.
